Leave your ego at the door

I think I work at the coolest place on earth.  At Dreamworks there is this thing once a year called, Dream Con where a bunch of coworkers set up tables and sell their books and artwork to each other.  It's a brilliant idea.  A few weeks before, Dave Wolter and Megan Dong had the idea of getting some artists together to draw caricatures of each other on yellow post-it notes.  Boy, when these artists get together, there is no holding back!  If this ever happens to you, I hope you have thick skin or that you develop it quickly.  If you can put your ego to the side, it is one of the funniest things I've ever been a part of.

One of the Producers at Sony was fortunate enough to have his house remodeled and featured on "This Old House" some time ago.  As a thank you he asked me to come up with this caricature set for the staff.  I would have loved to go a bit meaner :)  But in this case, you gotta please the audience...

Murphy and Laura

Murphy helps everyone he comes across. He's just that kind of a person.  He got married a while ago and asked a bunch of his artist friends to come up with caricatures for the happy couple.  I was a few months late, but I'm happy to report that I got it done.

Adam Sandler

Sony asked me to work up this caricature of Adam Sandler cause it's his birthday today. I think it's funny that he'll have my autograph, and I won't have his....

Marco and Marlo

This first guy here is another standard, run-of-the-mill, caricature of a colleague leaving the company. The drawing is pretty simple, straight forward and says nothing. It slightly resembles the target, but little else.



This one, however, was inspired by Marlo Meekins, a true, mean caricature artist. Her work is not for the faint of heart, but she does find amazing new shapes and relationships.

It's hard to be mean in caricatures. I think I'm still afraid they are going to look over my shoulder, realize what they're looking at and punch me in the side of the head. Plus, I've always tried to make things appealing, I'm always avoiding the disgusting. Well, it's time to shake things up a bit.
